I just finished reading Michael Chabon’s The Final Solution, a novella. It was a grand attempt, but I think it fell somewhat short of what he was attempting to do. A story about Sherlock Holmes at 89 and written in a similar style to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s, the best part about this book is still Chabon’s own language.
Publishers Weekly puts it best at: “Neither a proper mystery nor particularly fine literature, this haunting novella, for all its strengths, lies uneasily between the two and will fully please few fans of each.”
